Adolphus "AJ" Kaufman

Adolphus "AJ" Kaufman, 86, of Granite City, Ill., born September 12, 1931, in Alhambra, Ill., passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017, at Gateway Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.

AJ retired from Ford Motor Company where he worked on the assembly line. He valiantly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an active member of Collinsville VFW Post 5691, where he belonged to the VFW Honor Guard as well as the pool league. He enjoyed hunting but his greatest joy of all was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma, nee Hoge, Kaufman; his sisters, Georgianne Pierce and Emilene Wallace.

AJ is survived by his wife Gertrude "Gertie", nee Schuessler, Kaufman of Granite City, Ill.; his sons, Steven (Sandy) Kaufman, Robert Kaufman; his daughter, Janet (Brian) Goodman of Columbus, Miss.; grandchildren, Nicole (Elbert) Spriwill of Canton, Miss., Jacob Goodman of Columbus, Miss.; daughters Barbara and Susan; his brother Gus Kaufman of Alhambra, Ill.; also surviving are his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews along with many close friends.

Service: Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Herr Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Habermehl officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill.
