Angel Fernandez, 84, of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 27, 1930, in Beckemeyer, Ill., passed away at 6:49 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Liberty Village Nursing Home in Maryville, Ill.
Mr. Fernandez retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a federal meat and poultry inspector in St Louis, Mo. He was president of the local union for 20 years, third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vidal and Maria, nee Yglesias, Fernandez; and two brothers, Vidal Fernandez and Joseph Fernandez.
Surviving are his wife, Louise, nee Forneris, Fernandez; his children, Dr. Mark (Joan) Fernandez of Peru, Ill., Michael (Janice) Fernandez of Collinsville, Ill., Rose Marie (Richard) Zabawa of Collinsville, Ill., and Robert (Natalie) Fernandez of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Jared, Jordan, Christopher, Brian, Bobbie Jo, and Rob Fernandez, Rebecca and Luke Zabawa, Kimberly (Justin) Hongisto and Alec Bone; great-grandchildren, Magen and Micah Hongisto; a brother, Conrad Fernandez of Granite City, Ill.; and his sister, Geraldine Genetti of Collinsville, Ill.
