Arlayne Milton, 91, passed away on May 16, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born in Granite City to Richard Howard and Ruth (Hegarty) Howard on February 7, 1932. She was nicknamed "Dickie" because of her resemblance to her father.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings and their spouses: Norma (Tony) Wiehardt, Ruth (Medford) Abernathy, Robert (Ednamae) Howard, Carol "Kay" Howard, Eunice "Jean" (Marvin) Hermes and Dorothy "JoAnn" Dix. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Milton, her son-in-law Joseph Holtzscher and her great-granddaughter Sophia Ladd.
Arlayne is survived by her daughter, Nancy Milton Holtzscher; son, Mark Milton; daughter-in-law, Sondra Milton; granddaughter, Kathleen Holtzscher; grandson-in-law, Donald Ladd; and great- grandsons, Malachi Ladd and Gideon Ladd. Brother-in-law, Harold Dix survives along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She lived a long and independent life with many interests, including reading as a lifelong patron of the Granite City Library, travel, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and holiday fun with friends and family. She spoke fondly of travel to England, Alaska, and Hawaii with her sisters, as well as frequent bus trips with friends. For many years, she also enjoyed bowling. Arlayne was retired from Parks College of Saint Louis University and Granite City Steel. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Glen Carbon, IL.
