Arline M. Whittington, nee Steinmetz, 81, of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 20, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., died at 4:16 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011, at her residence.



Mrs. Whittington was a member of the Evening Circle and Women's Guild at St. John United Church of Christ, American Pen Women, Collinsville Junior Service Club and the Happy Wanderers. She loved playing cards with her friends and spending time with her family. One of her favorite times was the Friday Morning Breakfast Fellowship she had with her family.



She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Bernice, nee Blattner, Steinmetz.



Surviving are her husband, Samuel "Gene" Whittington of Collinsville, Ill., whom she married on Dec. 27, 1944; son and daughter, Robert Eugene (Anita) Whittington of Highland, Ill., and Shere Joan (Harry) Dapron of Fairview Heights, Ill.; grandchildren, David Shea (Jody) Pintar of New Baden, Ill., and Lori Elizabeth Pintar of Sanford, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Robert Pintar and Kylie Shat Pintar; and sister, Joan Stephenson of Collinsville, Ill.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill.



Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, at St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville, Ill., with the Rev. Tony Minear officiating. Interment in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
