Barbara Jean Byrd, nee Hancock, 72, of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 24, 1939, in Big Rock, Tenn., died at 3:52 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at her residence.



Mrs. Byrd retired as a dietician from the former St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City, Ill.



Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Byrd, whom she married on April 21, 1962; and her parents, Clifton and Dorothy, nee Joiner, Hancock.



Surviving are her daughters, Donna Byrd of Granite City, Ill., and Robin (Scott) Taylor of Granite City, Ill.; grandchildren, Michelle (Chad Gibson) Taylor of Granite City, Ill., Donald Taylor and Cassie Taylor, both of Granite City, Ill.; brothers, Thomas Hancock of Woodlawn, Tenn., and Bernie (Kim) Hancock of East Alton, Ill.; and sisters, Nell Rye of Springfield, Tenn., and Peggy Kichler of Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill., with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Interment will follow.
