Betty Jean Goodman, age 81, passed away peacefully with her family beside her on October 13, 2024, in Washington, Missouri.
She was born in Saint Louis, Missouri to Theodore M. Herbert and Irene M. (nee Lowes) Herbert on October 21st, 1942.
On November 27, 1963, she married Jerry R. Goodman Sr, who passed away April 8, 1994.
Betty was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of New Haven, MO. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.
Betty's education was testimony to her persistence. She completed 8th Grade before staying home to help her parents and siblings. A significant personal achievement was when she obtained her GED at the age of 70, highlighting her lifelong dedication to learning. Her varied career included valued roles as a diligent homemaker, a dedicated factory worker, creative florist and many other roles she took on.
She was woman of endless capabilities and a keen desire for knowledge, Betty devoted herself to numerous hobbies which brought great joy not only to her but also to those around her. Her hands were rarely still, often found tending to her plants and garden, stitching together beautiful creations, or expressing her artistic side through painting and drawing. Additionally, her culinary skills were a testament to her ability to transform simple ingredients into meals that warmed and nourished the hearts of many. Betty's unique sense of humor and passion for card games, especially Rummy, made for cherished, lively and competitive family gatherings.
Her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She exceedingly enriched her family in love, guidance, presence, and left behind a glistening legacy.

Son- Jerry R. Goodman Jr. and his significant other, Jackie Ferrell, of Saint Louis, MO
Grandson- Lance A. (Shannon) Goodman of Fenton, MO
Grandson- Bradley S. (Mary) Goodman of Saint Louis, MO
Granddaughter- Ashlinn R. Goodman of Saint Louis, MO
Granddaughter- Katelyn M. (Devon) Frank of Arnold, MO
Great Granddaughter- Kaylee G. Goodman
Great Grandson- Bentley M. Garner
Great Granddaughter- Kyndall R. Goodman
Great Grandson- Brayden A. Frank
Great Grandson- Watson J. Frank
Great Granddaughter- Cecelia S. Goodman
Great Granddaughter- Expected to Arrive April 2025
Her large family also includes seven siblings, numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends who survive her.

Father- Theodore M. Herbert
Mother- Irene M. Herbert
Brother- Theodore "Ted" Herbert
Many beloved pets including her Riley.
Funeral services will be held on October 24, 2024, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by words of remembrance by Pastor Jim Wilshusen. The services will be held at Herr Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Collinsville, IL, with the interment taking place at St. Johns Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Betty's memory may do so through contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Project . Through such acts of giving, her compassionate spirit will continue to be felt by all.
