IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles E.
Pochek
May 13, 1942 – January 24, 2022
Charles (Chuck) E. Pochek, 79, of Caseyville, IL passed away peacefully at his home on January 24, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born May 13, 1942 at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, IL to Bill and Norma Pochek.
Chuck was a 1960 graduate of O'fallon Township High School where he lettered in basketball and track all four years. He began his nearly 40-year career in the grocery business at Pochek's IGA on Bunkum Road as a Produce Manager. From there he became the Store Manager at the Pochek's IGA on State Street in East St. Louis. Eventually he would join Meat Cutters Local 534 and work as a meat cutter for National Food Store and Schnucks. After his grocery career, he started QuickFix, a handyman company serving the Metro East. He retired in 2006, but continued to enjoy woodworking, gardening, fly fishing, trap shooting, and attending his grandkids games and activities.
Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. The most significant event in his life, however, had nothing to do with his education or work or even his family. Rather, it was his commitment in October of 1977 to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Chuck told most everyone he met about his commitment to Christ and encouraged them to consider giving their lives to Christ as well.
Chuck was preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Detering.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosie, nee Schmid; his children Lou (Connie) Pochek of Caseyville, Dr. Rob (Susan) Pochek of VA, Shelly (Jeff) White of Trenton, and Jennifer (Chad) Detering of Nashville. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael (Heather) Pochek, Josh (Lori) Pochek, Jake (Brittany) Pochek, Dave Pochek, Jessica (Jared) Hessling, Alexis White, Zack White, Emily (Jacob) Larsen, Aiden Detering, Connor Detering, Caleb Detering, Lucy Jo Detering, Charis Detering, Ellie Detering, Noah Detering, and Agnes Joy (Little Bit) Detering, as well as a host of great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church O'Fallon, 1111 E. Hwy 50, O'Fallon, Illinois.
