Obituary

Col. George Sherman, 92, formerly of Collinsville, IL, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Fountains of Troy. He was born November 26, 1918 in Rend City, IL, the son of Peter and Mary Sherman. George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alexander and Edmond; one sister Josephine; and a granddaughter, Laura.

Col. Sherman retired from the U.S. Army in 1970 and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was manager of the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. He was a long time member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and a life member of the VFW. He loved bowling, golf and gardening.

George is survived by his wife, Berniece; sons Terry (Kathy) of Chesterfield, MO; Paul (Phyllis) of Granite City, IL; and Bill (Joy) of Springfield, IL. Grandchildren are Scott, Britt, Nathan, Jedda, Josiah and Samuel; and six great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to USO of Missouri.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23 at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 24 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, IL.

Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
