Obituary

Daniel Blaine Larner, 45, of Maryville, IL, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Maryville, Ill. on February 21, 2015. He was born February 8, 1970, in Quincy, Ill., to Ronald and Joan (Davis) Larner.

Dan participated in many sports as a boy, but particularly liked soccer. He also enjoyed playing French horn. Dan graduated from Quincy High School in 1988, where he participated in band and was a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. His senior year he played floor hockey and had a great time. He graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and advanced technical studies. It was in a computer class where he met Mary Carol Rickenbaugh, and they were married in Carbondale, Ill., on September 3, 1994. While in college he played wheelchair basketball for four years on the "Rolling Salukis" basketball team. He was employed by Systems Consultants, Inc., in St. Louis for six years as a Systems Analyst/Consultant and Enterprise Car/Leasing Corporate in St. Louis as a senior systems engineer for 14 years, retiring this year due to illness.

Dan enjoyed cooking, attending music and sports functions his children were participating in, and playing Canasta with his family where he usually won. He had a dry sense of humor which was enjoyed by all close to him. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Blues hockey team as well as the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors besides his wife include his parents of Quincy, Ill. and three children, Jessica Marie of Kansas City, Mo. and Emily Diane and David Blaine at home. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Betty Rickenbaugh of Herrin, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Kim (Joe) Schippers of Gallatin, Tenn.; a brother-in-law, Donald Rickenbaugh, Jr. of Staten Island, NY; a brother-in-law, Aaron (Melissa) Rickenbaugh, of Joliet, Ill.; and a nephew, Justin of Joliet, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Donald Rickenbaugh, Sr.; his maternal and paternal grandparents, Guy and Bernice Davis of rural Williamsfield, Ill. and Harry and Ruby Larner of Prairie City, Ill.; and his sister, Mary Diane Larner.

Dan requested no flowers and asked that memorials be made to either Cardinal Glennon Children''s Hospital of St. Louis, Ronald McDonald House of St. Louis, BJC Hospice or The Larner Children''s Educational Fund. Memorials made be sent to the funeral home.

Visitation will be 4:00 " 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
