Darlene M. Aurand, nee Plafcan, 88, of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 13, 1927, in St. Charles, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at home.

Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed her family. She was a member of the Granite City Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City. Her great joy was dancing with her husband and making an annual trip to Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Aurand, whom she married on April 26, 1943, and who passed away on May 27, 2001; a son, Ryan; her parents, Paul and Esther Plafcan; brothers, Paul and Andrew Plafcan; and a sister, Rosella Lynch.

Darlene is survived by her children, Gary (Sandra) Aurand of Newport Beach, Fla., Dennis (Kim) Aurand of Bethalto, Ill., and Kenneth Aurand of Granite City, Ill.; a brother, Stanley (Peggy) Plafcan of Piedmont, Mo.; sisters, Shirley (Larry) Gassie of Sherwood Lake, Mo., and Helen (Richard) King of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday June 9, 2016, at the Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City, Ill., with Rev. Alan Beuster officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Ill.
