Delbert Ernest "Ernie" Johnessee, loving husband, father, and friend passed away August 1, 2024, at the age of 89.

Ernie was born on June 22, 1935, in Granite City, IL, son of Delbert and Eva Johnessee. He was a graduate of Granite City High School and a member of Operating Engineers Local 520 for over 50 years.

Ernie married Patricia Rotter in Granite City in 1956 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Pat; his three children, Debby, Lori, and Todd (Tina); four grandchildren, Jessica, Zachary, Paige, and Madison; three great grandchildren, Adalee, Brody, and Kain. He is also survived by one sister, Pauline. Ernie was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Larry, and Jim, and one sister- Linda.

Ernie took his love for traveling and adventures all over but the place he enjoyed most was sitting on the beach in the Bahamas. At home he enjoyed lounging in the pool, Cardinals baseball, and snacking on Double Stuf Oreo cookies and ice cream. He loved spending time with his family, many friends and Smokey, his cat.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL on Friday, August 16, from 4pm-8pm. There will be no other services.
