Donald Louis Fedder, 80, of Collinsville, Ill., died on Thursday, June 7, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at the family residence. He was born on Dec. 24, 1931 in Carlinville, Ill., the son of Erwin Theodore Fedder and Esther Ruth, nee Heinicke, Fedder and the youngest of four children.
He married his wife of 50 years, Doreen Dawson, of Peterborough, Ontario, on Oct. 7, 1961, in Collinsville, Ill. They had five children.
He was the owner of Fedder Oil Company, in Collinsville, Ill., which he founded in 1956, and served the community for many years, building lasting relationships.
Don was a life-long member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., where he served as church elder, member of the men's choir, KFUO radio sound and recording engineer and chairman of the 1991 school and gymnasium expansion.
He graduated and was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran School in Collinsville and served as president of the Walther League in his youth.
He graduated from Collinsville Township High School in 1949.
Don was a veteran and served during the Korean War between 1952 and 1954. He was a member of the 25th Infantry "Tropical Lightning" Division and one of the Remington Raiders.
He was a long-time member of the Collinsville Recreation Club, where he had served as club treasurer.
Don was fun to be around and loved spending time with his golfing buddies, bowling teammates and dear friends and classmates over the years.
He had a remarkable memory and was known for his story telling, such as, recounting school days in an old four room school house and working on the family farm during the summers.
He loved to read the Bible every day and could recite his favorite passages and hymns. He shared his faith with many.
Don was a loving father and grandfather, beloved husband, cherished friend and relative. He will be sorely missed by all.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Daniel Fedder of Collinsville, Michael (Stephanie) Fedder of Edwardsville, daughter, Dawn (Dr. Daniel) Burroughs of Balzac, France, sister, Velma Lange of Collinsville and grandchildren, Charles Fedder, Ava Fedder and Gabrielle Burroughs.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Earl Fedder; sister, Betty Shadwick; infant son, Donald Fedder Jr.; and infant daughter, Christina Fedder.

Funeral: Service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., with the Rev. William Engfehr and Dr. Dale Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Collinsville, Ill.
