Doris A. "Doby" Thomas, nee Carter, 89, of Caseyville, Ill., born February 21, 1923, in Carrolton, Ill., died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at her residence.
Doris and Bill met while they were both working in Washington D.C., and they were married March 6th, 1949, for 63 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family very much. She will be dearly missed by all.
Doris and Bill traveled extensively, enjoyed camping and belonged to several Square Dancing groups, a few being the Boots and Slippers Square Dancing Club in Caseyville and the Dandy Dancers Square Dancing Club in Belleville. Doris was many things, she was a seamstress making her own square dancing dresses, she worked for the Swift Co., also worked in the Lab at Monsanto in St. Louis. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts, was an avid card player especially Pinochle, and a gardener. She was a member of Caseyville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Rua Lucile, nee Cannedy, Carter; a grandson, Christopher Ridgeway; and a sister, Mary Lou Carter.
Surviving are a her husband, Bill R. Thomas of Caseyville, Ill.; a daughter, Joyce Ann (Richard) Ridgeway of Royalton, Ill.; a son, Raymond (Estrella) Thomas of Deltona, Fla.; a brother, Jack Carter of Carrolton, Ill.; five grandchildren, Robert Thomas, Tim Thomas, Charlie Thomas, Christina Hyatt and William Ridgeway; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Herr Funeral Home, Caseyville, Ill., with the Rev. Dave Kueker officiating. Burial at Caseyville Cemetery, Caseyville, Ill.
