IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris J.
Shup
May 20, 1928 – January 25, 2023
Doris J. Shup (nee Starling), 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in Maryville, Illinois. Doris was born May 20, 1928, in Granite City, Illinois to the late Eldred and Bernice (nee Gattung) Starling.
Doris married Leonard C. Shup on October 4, 1947 in Bloomfield. Missouri. They built a wonderful life together and happily raised seven children. She was a devoted member of the Collinsville Church of Christ, where she volunteered her free time to others in need. She was very active in her church, and assisted others through the Meals on Wheels Program and teaching Thursday School.
She was an amazing wife, devoted mother, and a very proud and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. She would make dresses for her six daughters as they grew up, and spent lots of time meticulously ironing and sewing every piece. There are no words that can express the tremendous loss of such a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard C. Shup; daughter, Laurel Shup; parents, Eldred and Bernice Starling; and brother and sister-in-law, William and Wilma Starling.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Lynne (Roger) Clark, Stephanie (Larry) Astrauskas, Sandra (Kevin) Wiwczaroski, Donald E, (Ginny) Shup, Phyllis (Gary) Hamilton, and Patricia (Perry) Cochran; seventeen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and siblings, Raymond (Jo Ann) Starling, James (Fran) Starling and Pamela Greenwell.
Visitation will be held at Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Road in Collinsville, IL on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 10:00am - 11:00am. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am, immediately followed by burial in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, 50 Fountain Drive in Glen Carbon, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ, The Alzheimer's Association, or The American Heart Association will be appreciated.
