GRANITE CITY, IL- Dorothy A. Gardner, 77, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO.
Dorothy was born November 11, 1941, in Granite City, IL to Arthur George and Alma Louise nee Berry Brammell. She married Norman C. Gardner, Jr. on July 31, 1957 at the Church of Christ in St. Louis, MO. Norman preceded her in death on October 10, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robart "Bart" Norman Gardner, and sister, Norma Louise nee Brammell Cook.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Barry L. Gardner, M.D., Lt. Col., Ret., USAF and wife, Melanie, of Colorado Springs, CO, Scott C. Gardner and wife, Cheryl, of Collinsville IL, Michael Gardner and wife, Kim, of High Ridge, MO, Nancy S. Hussey and husband, Rock, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Randy C. Gardner of Granite City, IL; 14 grandchildren: Benjamin Gardner, Jonathan Gardner, Julia Prismon, Noelle Schreiber, Nathan Gardner, Amanda Gardner, SaVannah Hussey, Sierra Hussey, Dillon Hussey, Rhett Hussey, Rachel Hussey, Gigi Gardner, Kendra Gardner, and Randy Gardner; and 5 great-grandchildren: Paulie Schreiber, Ava Schreiber, Leo Gardner, Vincent Gardner and Jane Gardner; and sister, Ethel May nee Brammell McCann and husband, Dennis of Collinsville, IL.
Dorothy will be remembered as the wellspring of spiritual heritage for her family. She had a kind, sweet and innocent spirit. She was a devoted homemaker. Dorothy loved tending to her flower garden and enjoyed the beauty they brought into her home. Her true joy in life came from the love she gave and received from all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren – and all the other children whom she helped care for throughout her life. After the death of their son, Robart, Dorothy and Norman were honored and blessed to continue raising his daughter, Amanda. Dorothy and her late husband, Norman, were faithful members of Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church, 2445 Ohio Avenue, Granite City, IL. Additional condolences may be sent to the family through this online guestbook.
VISITATION: A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL 62034.
SERVICE: A service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Brimm will officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Glen Carbon, IL.
