Dorothy Mae Pitts, nee Held, 92, of Caseyville, Ill., born Jan. 25, 1920, in Knox County, Ind., died at 10:25 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at her residence.



In 1970, Dorothy received her nurse's degree at the age of 50 from the Deaconnes School of Medicine in St Louis, Mo.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Pitts; parents, Carl and Aleda, nee Strate, Held; brothers, Robert, Herbert, John and Bruce Held; and sisters, Mary Harris and Margaret Jackson.



Surviving Dorothy are her brother, Richard (Lucy) Held of Gary, Ind.; sister-in-law, Rosemary Held of Caseyville, Ill.; nephew, Steve (Margy) Held of Edwardsville, Ill.; niece, Sally (Paul) Barkus of Troy, Ill. She was also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral: Graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Memorial Park, Vincennes, Ind. Burial will follow.
