IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy M.
Straub
April 14, 1936 – March 5, 2023
Dorothy M. Straub, Edwardsville – Dorothy "Dottie" M. Straub, Age 86 of Edwardsville passed to be with Jesus at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Oliver Anderson Hospital in Maryville with her grand-daughters Amy Sutherland and Heather Kypta at her bedside. Dottie was born April 14, 1936, in a suburb of St. Louis to the late Harry G. and Hilda L. (Binkhoelter) Vestel, moving shortly thereafter to Edwardsville. A life-long local resident, she is predeceased by her husband, Edwin Eugene (Gene) Straub and son, Graig Eugene Straub, father-and-mother-in-law, Walter E. and Mary L. Straub, and a special Aunt Evelyn (Vestel). Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia L. O'Brien, her daughter-in-law, Kris Straub, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Grandchildren Amy & Andy Sutherland (Drew and Ryan); Heather & Greg Kypta (Hannah and Gracelyn); Adam & Allison Bussman (Henry & George); Alyssa & Scott Smith (Harrison); and, Zack Bussman. Dorothy is also survived by sister-in-law, Mildred M. Bruhn (surviving spouse of Carl F. Bruhn) and three nieces, Katherine, Alexandra, and Frederika; and, cousin Donna Straub (surviving spouse of Leonard O. Straub) and her two daughters Stephanie and Kimberly. Dorothy's cherished friends who shared her life's memories and those of Christian fellowship were also the laughter and love in Dorothy's life. Dorothy retired from US Bank-Edwardsville. She was a masterful seamstress, skilled at quilting, knitting, crochet, and embroidery. Her apple dumplings were the best West - and East - of the Mississippi. In addition to her family and friends, Dorothy loved her Yorkie terriers, "Cricket" and "Kadee Lea", her time as an Auxiliary volunteer at Oliver Anderson hospital, reading, Sudoku, travelling - to include Alaska, Europe, and the Holy Land. She always returned to her hometown insisting she would not live anywhere else. Dottie was a true Midwesterner. Her favorite hymn was "How Great Thou Art". Now her family takes comfort knowing Dorothy sings with God's heavenly choir, and is surrounded once again by her husband, Gene, son, Graig, and God's family – in Spirit and in Truth and Joy everlasting. In God's Love-filled Promises, we celebrate Dorothy is now in Eternal Peace; "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."-Revelation 21:4. In lieu of flowers, it is requested a special memory be created with your loved ones. Private family services held at Sunset Hills Cemetery graveside, honoring Dorothy's request.
