Dorothy M. Thomas, 92, of Swansea, IL, formerly of Caseyville, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Bradford Place in Swansea, IL.

She was born October 26, 1925 in East St. Louis, IL to Joseph Basola and Lorraine R. St. Pierre. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Ralph Shopher. She married John W "Bill" Thomas on November 20, 1943 who preceded her in death on January 8, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Wilma Kister and Shirley Davis.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Pati (David) Church of Swansea, IL and John "Bill" (Nancy) Thomas Jr. of Maryville, IL; grandsons, David (Jamie) Church of O'Fallon, IL and Jerod (Danielle) Thomas of Collinsville, IL; Jason (Demeka) Church of Franklin, TN, Adam (Tawny) Thomas of Staunton, IL; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jakob, Camden, Peyton, Jack, Hudson, Jace, Greyson, Broc, Samantha, and Asher.

Dorothy was a bookkeeper for Meyer-Hurwitz Jewelry Store in East St. Louis . She was also involved in Caseyville School as an office and teacher aid and the PTA and Lion Clubs of Caseyville, IL. She faithfully attended Caseyville United Methodist Church and belonged  to the Women's Laurel Circle. Dorothy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Heartland Hospice or Caseyville United Methodist Church. Additional condolences may also be sent to the family through this online guestbook.

VISITATION: A visitation for Dorothy will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 1:00 P.M.- 3:00 P.M. at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.

FUNERAL: A funeral service will be immediately following the visitation, at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.
