Obituary

God gave the gift of life to Eileen on Jan. 21, 1920, in Collinsville, Ill., to Charles and Leona, nee Best, Henson, and she walked into Heaven on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, Ill., where she remained a life-long member and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Eileen was united in marriage to James Hoppes Sr. on Feb. 26, 1938. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Rev. James (Chris) Hoppes Jr. of Collinsville, Ill., Carole (Ron) Althardt of Caseyville, Ill., and Cheryl (Coy) Watson of Edwardsville, Ill.; also survived by a sister-in-law, Dolores Henson of Collinsville, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Peggy (Terry) Thomas of Springfield, Ill., Bruce Henson, Jill (Bill) Wallace and Tommy Hoppes; seven grandchildren, Cara McCulley, Carl Hoppes, Sara Hoppes, James Althardt, Amy Ellis, Denise Renfro and Matthew Renfro. Eileen and James were also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and her brothers, Charles, Marshall and Albert.

God worked through Eileen in faithful service as a Sunday school teacher at Holy Cross, Ladies Aid officer and school cafeteria volunteer. She kept her life faithfully under the influence of God's Word and Sacrament, having her own favorite pew in church, setting a strong Christian example.

Death is no loss to Eileen. It is rather the fulfillment of what the Lord Jesus Christ covenanted with her at her Baptism. As we at this time are in Holy Week, we sing for her: "Jesus Lives! The Victory's Won!"
