Obituary

Elston E. Evans, 88, of Springfield entered eternal life at 11:52 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Elston was born January 8, 1928 in Sefton Township, IL to Lester and Pearlie Evans. He married M. Maxine Wall February 25, 1950, and she survives.

Also surviving are three daughters: Valera Yazell of Springfield, IL, Sheila Evans of Sacramento, CA, and Marcia Evans of Olympia, WA.; six grandchildren, Tabatha Yazell, Brent Yazell of San Francisco, CA, Kristen (Bryan) Clow of Springfield, IL, Jessica (Mike) Rogers, Ben Hidalgo (fiance Rhianedd Wynne) of Sacramento, CA, Lauren Evans of Austin, TX; six great grandchildren, Dylan, Stella and Harper Clow , Isaac and Eleanor Rogers and Hazel Cook; sister Gwen (Elmer) Eberhart of Edwardsville; several nieces and a nephew.

Elston was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gerald and Lyle and his son, John.

He served in the Army then the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a Packing Specialist for the U.S. Government.

He loved camping, fishing, hunting, was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and loved his great grandchildren. He had a passion for American history, playing pinochle and using his hands to build things (MacGyver style). He was a member and officer of the American Legion Post 199 and served as an officer for the Bass Club. He attended Esic Baptist Church while in Edwardsville.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, Ill., with Larry Busch officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
