FAIRMONT CITY, IL- Elvera M. Valdez, 89, of Fairmont City, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Caseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Caseyville, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 29, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to Martin and Manuela Zuniga. She married her dear husband, Roy T. Valdez on April 15, 1950 in St. Louis, MO.Together, they shared 68 years of marriage. He survives and resides in Caseyville.
Also surviving are her children, Rita Barrera (Francisco) of Cahokia, IL, Roy D. (Laverne) Valdez. of Granite City. IL; and Richard M. Valdez of Fairmont City,IL; grandchildren, Jackie Stone (Tony) of St. Louis, MO, Angela Valdez Dolosic of Granite City, IL, Crystal Suarez (Raul) of Granite City, IL, Alejandra Barrera (Chad) of Collinsville, IL and Francisco R. Barrera of Marion, IL; and many great-grandchildren.
Elvera was friend to many, including Josephine (Wewe) Manley, Barb and Debbie Arnold, who always gave her rides home from church, and especially a dear friend and neighbor to Bob and Jackie and Eddie Belba and family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph Zuniga, Manuel Zuniga, Louis Zuniga, and Joseph Barboza; and nephew, Martin H. Zuniga.
Elvera worked as a seamstress. She was a member of the Fairmont Senior Citizens, The Ladies Sodality at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont City, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Additional condolences may also be sent to the family through this online guestbook.
SERVICE: A memorial service for Elvera will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. in the library at Caseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation, 601 W. Lincoln Ave, Caseyville, IL 62232, in the library. Herr Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded.
