Erma A. Adams, nee Patterson, 84, of Mitchell, Ill., born Sept. 11, 1927, in Rector, Ark., died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at her residence.



Emma was a cashier at the former Sonic Service Station in Granite City. Her greatest joy was her family circle that she loved very much.



She was preceded in death by her son, Michael E. Adams; her parents, James L. and Buelah E., nee Shaw, Patterson; a brother, William Patterson; and a sister, Esther Reynolds.



Surviving are her husband, John Adams whom she married on Jan. 5, 1946; children, Linda (James) Sutphin of Granite City, Ill., Carolyn Sander of Smithton, Ill., Joyce (Dennis) Wickham of Mitchell, Ill., Cathy Adams of Mitchell, Ill., Johnny Adams of Mitchell, Ill., and Sandy (William) Higgins of Mitchell, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the funeral home with Pastor Clint Braman officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
