Ernest "Ernie" Payne Burgess III, 77, passed away on May 17th, 2024, with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on June 10th, 1946 to Emma (Miller) and Ernest Burgess, Jr. His parents proceeded him in death as well as his brother, William.

Ernie grew up in Virginia. After high school he proudly served 18 years in the US Air Force. His time in the military brought him to Scott Air Force Base. After moving there, he met and married the love of his life, Vivian "Kay" Burgess. They enjoyed over 45 happy years of marriage together. The love he had for her was the deep, everlasting kind that doesn't happen very often. Others even remarked on the obvious love they shared. He adored her until his final breath.

Ernie was the type of guy that people just automatically loved. He was a people person who made friends everywhere he met. He was caring with a great sense of humor. The type of good-natured humor that often got him into trouble with his flare for teasing. People would see him approaching and often utter "here comes trouble".

He loved going on long car rides, making friends with people and animals everywhere he went. He also enjoyed shopping excursions and being outdoors. He would often sit on the patio with Kay and their dog, Spunky, enjoying the weather and scenery.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife Kay, step-children: John Jones, Emil Jones, and Julie Jones-Kloeckner, granddaughter, Olivia, sister-in-law, Lynn, two nieces, along with other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
