Ethel June Cooley, 90, of Fenton, MO, passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2026, at Delmar Gardens. She was born on June 10th, 1936, to parents Ruff and Mildred Gallion, in Osceola, Arkansas.
Ethel was a resident of Collinsville, IL, for 40 years before moving to Delmar Gardens six years ago. She was a loving mom and grandmother, and all around friend to everyone she met. She was always cheerful and laughing, which brought smiles and laughter to those around her. Her generosity knew no bounds, always putting others before herself.
Ethel loved to garden and be outdoors - her yard at her Collinsville residence being a huge source of pride for her. She hated having idle hands and would always find a way to keep busy, even after moving into Delmar Gardens. She would wheel herself down to the dining hall to help the staff prepare and set up for resident meals. After which she loved to post up in front of their big screen TVs to watch her beloved St. Louis Cardinals, win or lose.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Jimmie D. Cooley; her parents, Ruff Gallion and Mildred Gallion nee Bridger; her son, Jimmie D. Cooley, Jr.; her daughter, Joann Decker; and eight of her siblings. Survivors include her daughter, Wendy (Glen) Ashabranner; her daughter, Nancy (Shaun) Bennett; her sister, Janie Gunther; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held at Herr Funeral Home on Thursday, August 27th, 2026 from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 9:30 A.M. A burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will follow services.
The family is being served by Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St, Collinsville, IL.
