Obituary

Eugene was born on October 29, 1920 to Omer and Mattie Vest of Red Dragon, West Virginia. He Died October 30, 2011 peacefully at the Southern Illinois Hospice facility Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville, IL.



He was preceded in death by his wife Garnet, two sons Gerald Eugene Vest of Sydney Australia and Paul Joe Vest of Crestone, Colorado as well as his parents and three siblings. He leaves one son Jan Charles Vest and daughter in law Jane (Sanders) Vest of Glen Carbon, IL. Eugene has three grandchildren Rebecca Perhacs (Scott) of O''Fallon, MO, Elizabeth Branch (Jason) of Metairie, LA, and Scott Vest of Durango, CO. Eugene has 4 Great Grandchildren Troy and Abigail Perhacs, Alice Jane and Tyler Branch. He has three surviving brothers, Jim, Bruce and Glen all of Godfrey, IL.



He moved from West Virginia in 1957 with his wife Garnet and their three sons, Jerry, Joe, and Jan to Marion, Illinois. He owned and operated Delmar Studios for over 19 years and retired to live on his farm. Gene was a great fisherman, hunter, beekeeper and golfer. He enjoyed his life on the farm. He lived the last seven years with his son and daughter in law Jan and Jane Vest in Glen Carbon, Il.



He served in the Navy for four years during WWII and also was a long time member of the ElKS Club. He loved his grandchildren and had many wonderful times with his great grandchildren Troy, Abbey, Alice and Tyler. He was a wonderful father and loving husband and faced the challenges of his life with courage. He will rest in peace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.



Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 6 at First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, IL. A memorial service will begin at 4:00 PM with Pastor John Hembruch presiding. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund, 237 N. Kansas St, Edwardsville, IL. Local arrangements handled by Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon, IL.
