SERVICES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED

Eugene "Gene" Young, 78, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away on January 27, 2022, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Illinois.

Gene was born July 25, 1943, to Louis Leon and Marie Julia (Davey) Young in St. Louis, Missouri.

The biggest love in his life were the  horses that he trained at Fairmount Park Race Track. He trained for over 30 years and had many great friends there.  He also enjoyed gambling and playing the slot machines.  He was the former President of HBPA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Leon Young, Tom Young, Charley Young, Ray Young, Joe Young, Jude Young, Jerry Young, John Young and Paul Young; sisters:  Pearl Bongner, and Mary McGuire; and lifelong friend and partner, Terry Renfrow.

Survivors include his brothers: Jim (Twila) Young of New Franklin, Missouri, and Daniel (Donna) Young of Mehlville, Missouri; sisters: Veronica Kelly of Chesterfield, Missouri, Roberta (Lynn) Gooch of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Rita (Dave) Hill of Fenton, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Habermehl officiating. Burial will follow at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
