Evelyn was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 5, 1929. She passed away on November 10, 2023. A resident of Granite City, Illinois since May 1951. She was an R.N. with a BSN from S.I.U.E. and certified in psychiatric and mental health nursing. She also worked at St. Elizabeth hospital and the Granite City Steel dispensary. She was a graduate of St. Louis City hospital and relief night supervisor there. The last 11 years of her 40 years in nursing, she was a head nurse at Malcolm Bliss Mental Health Institute.
She was a member of the St. Louis Metro Polka Club and the Springfield Polka Lovers of America, S.I.U.E. alumni, Family Hospice, Senior Circle Gateway Regional hospital auxiliary and a volunteer there too.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years in November 2004, a son John Pomeroy in April 1981, her parents Anna (Muth) and John Hiefer, and three sisters Janet, Gertrude, and Eleanor.
Evelyn is survived by two sons Jim Pomeroy and Andrew Myint, one daughter Margaret Charter, seven grandchildren Amy Gantvoort, Carrie Berg, Kathy Charter, Chris Charter, Jeff Pomeroy, Jeremy Pomeroy, and Jennifer Edwards. Along with seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A private service will be held for family and close friends at Sunset Memorial Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
