Fawntreba G. Pyrtle, nee White, 88, of Edwardsville, Ill., born Aug. 10, 1923, in Stillwell, Okla., died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her residence.



Mrs. Pyrtle taught second grade at Wilson Elementary School in Granite City, Ill., and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Some of her enjoyments were traveling extensively with William and the rest of her family, camping and spending time with her family and friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Pyrtle Jr., whom she married Aug. 31, 1941; parents, William Jesse and Hazel Bessie Lee, nee Anderson, White; a son-in-law, Richard Crabtree; a sister, Maudie Hern; and a brother, William J.L. "Son" White.



Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Crabtree of Edwardsville, Ill.; a granddaughter, Amanda (James) Martinez of O'Fallon, Ill.; a sister, Rosemary Hamilton of Austin, Texas; two nieces, Sharlene (Leo) Anderson of Salina, Okla., and Marilyn (Jerry) Joplin of Collinsville, Okla.; three nephews, David (Betty) Hern of Harrisonville, Mo., Larry (Bethel) Hern of Summers, Ark., and Kevin Hamilton of Austin, Texas; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins and friends.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Bell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
