Francis "Pete" Peter, 80, of Collinsville, Ill., born Sept. 17, 1935, in Millstadt, Ill., passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at his home.

Peter retired as a pressman from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was secretary-treasurer of the Pressman's Union Local 38.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Emma, nee Burg, Peter Jones; brothers, Fern, Kenneth and Ralph Jones; and a sister, Evelyn Kaase.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, nee Jensen, Peter, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1956, in Staunton, Ill.; children, Karen Peter of Boston, Mass., Gregg Peter of Overland, Mo., and Diane Peter of Collinsville, Ill.; brother, John Peter of Belleville, Ill.; sisters, Dolores (Ralph) Ohnemus of Katy, Texas, Vendell (Fred) Busch of Maryville, Ill., and Shirley (Robert) Stewart of Phoenix, Ariz. He is further survived by grandchildren, Amie (David) Wilson of Godfrey, Ill., Amanda Dempsey-Gipperich of St. Ann, Mo., Andrea (Matthew) Kowalskey of St. Ann, Mo., and Ashley (C.J.) Smith of Killeen, Texas; a great-grandchild, C.J. Smith III; and wonderful neighbors, Randy, Debbie, Jed Robbins and Caity Boren.

Memorials may be made to SSM Unity Hospice.

Visitation: A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at the funeral home. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date.
