Franklin George "Frank" Evanko, 87, of Collinsville, Ill., born April 24, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
Frank retired from Illini Federal as assistant vice president and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed working with wood and was an excellent carpenter having started out in the trades as a young man. Prior to starting at State Savings and Loan (later Illini Federal) in 1963, Frank was an insurance broker and member of the Million Dollar Club for Traveler's Insurance.
Frank and Mary Louise were well traveled in their retirement, having been to Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Vatican, Scandinavia, Russia, North Africa, the Panama Canal and Hawaii, as well as extensively throughout the U.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy, nee Floetman, Evanko.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, whom he married on Nov. 14, 1953 in Collinsville, Ill. Also surviving him are his son, Lyndon P. Evanko of Belleville, Ill.; his daughter, Karen L. Evanko of Collinsville, Ill.; a sister, Mary Christine (Jerry) Ward of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers-in-law, Norman Jurgens and Maurice Hardwick; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Visitation: A gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill.
Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the funeral home with Father John Beveridge officiating. Per request, cremation rites will be accorded.
