Gary Schwertmann, 63, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away in his home on July 29th, 2022.

He was the son of the late Charles and Venida (Raab) Schwertmann, born December 11th, 1958, in Granite City, Illinois.

Gary graduated from Granite City High School in 1976. He also attended Southwestern Illinois College, studying to work in a machine shop. He then attended Ranken Technical School.

Gary worked in facilities management at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville. He enjoyed reading and visiting the SIUE library and Granite City Library. Gary was also an avid beekeeper.

Gary is preceded in death by his two brothers, Larry Schwertman, and Dennis Schwertman, and sister in law Marilyn Baecher Schwertman.

He is survived by his sister, Irene DelRio (James) and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 9th, 2022  at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Dr, Glen Carbon, IL, from 4-7PM. A service will follow at 7PM.

Memorials may be made out to Six Mile Regional Library, at 2145 Johnson Road, Granite City, Illinois.
