Obituary

Gehrig Wayne Kuntz, 76, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Nora (Nash) Kuntz.

Those left to cherish Gehrig's memory are his wife of 53 years Barbara (Jury) Kuntz, daughter Katherine Ashcraft of Glen Carbon, IL, granddaughter Brittany Ashcraft of Granite City, IL, grandson Tyler Ashcraft of Lebanon, IL, two great grandsons Grayson Ashcraft and Jayden Malone, sister Linda Henslin of Destin, FL, brother Mark (Nancy) Kuntz of High Ridge, MO, brother in law Richard (Joyce) Jury of Jefferson City, MO, with special acknowledgements to Ted and Tammy Jury of Colorado Springs, CO, Kathy and Ed Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO, Andy and Lydia Jury of Erie, CO, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Gehrig proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam war. He earned a Master's degree from Lindenwood University. He found his life's work in steel manufacturing, having worked for Granite City Steel for 34 years and Heidtman Steel for 5 years.

Gehrig loved life and lived it to the fullest. His favorite pastime was golf, having played in all 50 states and several countries including the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. He enjoyed traveling, drinking wine, camping, fishing and being outdoors. The most important thing in his life was his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who truly relished his time with his loved ones.

A celebration of Gehrig's life will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Dr. Glen Carbon, Illinois.
