IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Samuel
Schiller
January 13, 1932 – April 27, 2024
George Samuel Schiller, 92, of Collinsville. Illinois passed away on April 27th, 2024.- He was born to August 'Gus' and Santina 'Sandy' (Sperino) Schiller on January 13th, 1932.
George proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Joan Willoughby on June 18th, 1955, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, and they were blessed with many happy years together. George and his family were longtime supporters of Willoughby Heritage Farm. The original land and homestead of Joan's grandparents were donated by her family and became the farm that the community enjoys today. They truly loved the farm and what it brought to Collinsville. George enjoyed many hobbies and stayed active throughout his life. He loved dancing, whether it was square dancing or waltzing, he was one to be seen on the dance floor. While Joan was alive, they were members of the Boots & Slippers Square Dance Club. Keeping with his active lifestyle, George was also an avid golfer, and golfed every day that he could. He also enjoyed playing tennis and hunting. George was a man of God and loved his church community. He often spoke of his many visits with Pastor Nicely, and how much that time together worshiping the Lord meant to him.
George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Josephine 'Jean', and wife Joan (Willoughby) Schiller. Those left behind to cherish George's memory include his nieces and nephews: Drew Day, Dawn Day-Meier (Gerald), Danielle Day Murphy, Derek Day, Graham Lee Willoughby Day (Tammy), Dennis Boehm Jr, nephew and Godchild, Robin 'Rob' Boehm, and Cousin Sandi Kurtz Borgens (Gary). The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the care and compassion shown to George while in the care of the staff of the VA Hospice at Jefferson Barracks.
Funeral Services will be held at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 305 Collinsville Avenue Collinsville, Illinois on Saturday May 4th, 2024 with visitation at 9:30 am and funeral services beginning at 10:00 am, burial is to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
