MARYVILLE- Giles Culver, 92, of Maryville, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his residence.
Giles was born on August 16, 1924 in Avon, Ill. to Ralph and Nellie Hock Culver. He married Linda, nee Blume, Pratt on February 5, 2000 in Nashville, TN.
Surviving is his wife, Linda Culver of Maryville; his children, John C. (Teri) Culver of Nashville, TN., Cheryl L. (Ken) Kesner of Quincy, Ill., Alan Culver of Quincy, Ill.; six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Melba Jury of Sparland, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bernalea McDonald, Warren Culver, and Merrill Culver.
Memorial donations may be made to the Maryville Fire Department, Hospice of Southern Illinois or Metro Community Church Children''s Organizations.
Giles proudly served his country during World War II, from 1942-1945, as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps.
He worked as a teacher for J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero, Ill. for 30 years, before his retirement.
He was a member of Metro Community Church in Edwardsville, Ill., Illinois Teachers Association, VFW Post 5691 in Collinsville, Ill., where he served as district commander and held numerous other positions. He also volunteered much of his time to the American Red Cross.

VISITATION: A visitation for Giles will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill. Visitation honors will be provided by the Collinsville VFW Post 5691.
FUNERAL: A funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill. Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, where military honors will be rendered.
