Glen D. Johnson, 84, of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on June 24, 2021.
Glen was born in Alton, Missouri, on April 2, 1937, to Mack C. and Lola (Hollis) Johnson. He and Betty Murray were married September 16, 1956, at Pleasant Grove Church in Teresita, Missouri.
He worked for Union Starch for 15 years as a dryer operator, and then began his career with Granite City Steel where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 26 and half years. He retired from there in January of 1999, after a devastating stroke.
Glen was a long time member at Calvary Life Church in Granite City, Illinois, where he served as deacon for 38 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #835, Ducks Unlimited, and the NRA. He loved to hunt, fish and loved any task he could complete while using his John Deere tractor!
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Anna Lou Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Betty Johnson of Pontoon Beach, Illinois; son, David "Steven" Johnson of Pontoon Beach, Illinois; daughter, Phyllis June Fisher and husband Mark of Edwardsville, Illinois; grandchildren: Brandon Scarborough and wife Laura of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Ethan Fisher of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Bridget Lesicko and husband Jared of St. Louis, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Nicodemus Scarborough and Eve Lila Scarborough; brother, Darold Dean Johnson and wife Glenda of Alton, Missouri, sisters: Sue Friend of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sharon "Kay" Johnson of West Plains, Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road, Granite City, Illinois. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Illinois, under the direction of Sunset Hill Funeral Home.
