Gregory J. Mateyka, 52, of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 27, 1961, died Sunday, July 20, 2014, in St. Louis, Mo.
Gregory attended Ss. Peter and Paul grade school and graduated from Collinsville High School in 1979. He later attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and Colorado Mountain College.
In 1981 he took a job as a communications supervisor at Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas in Utah, where he became known as "the Voice of Lake Powell." He later worked as general manager and news director at KRMH radio in Leadville, Colo.
Gregory returned to Collinsville in 1990, where he worked for the Collinsville Herald and WRYT-AM radio, and was past president of the Downtown Collinsville Business Association.
He was a faithful parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Lodge of Ondessonk in Ozark, Ill., the Collinsville Jaycees, and other civic organizations.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Norma, nee Votava, Mateyka.
He will be fondly remembered by many good friends across the country.
Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 210 N. Morrison Ave. in Collinsville, Ill.
Funeral: A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. A gathering of friends to celebrate Gregory's life will follow at noon at Hurricanes Bar and Grill, 222 W. Main St., Collinsville, Ill.
