Harold E. Nicol, 85, of Collinsville, Ill., born April 22, 1928, in Greenville, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.

Mr. Nicol played the trumpet and was an avid musician. He belonged to the musician local. He retired as an operating engineer and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ. Harold was also a member of the Local 520 and was a life member of both Collinsville American Legion Post 365 and Collinsville VFW Post 5691.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, nee Dorn, Nicol, whom he married on Dec. 28, 1952; his parents, Irvin W. and Magdelena H., nee Schmidt, Nicol; a sister and two brothers, Florence Bohn, Irvin Nicol and Elwood Nicol; and nephew, Earl Bohn.

Surviving are nephews and nieces, Alan (Jeannie) Nicol of Collinsville, Ill., Nancy (Jerry) Vetter-Staten of Glen Carbon, Ill., Kevin (Beth) Nicol of Granite City, Ill., Dale Bohn of Collinsville, Ill., Connie (Joe) Hines of Edwardsville, Ill., Dr. Richard Nicol of Edwardsville, Ill., Lanette (Phil) Boileau of Canton, Mich., Laura Klatt of Collinsville, Ill., and Lisa Klatt of Collinsville, Ill.; sister-in-law, Kay (Bob) Klatt of Collinsville, Ill.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at the funeral home with Rev. Katie Jo Bielke officiating. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, Ill.
