Ian Michael Bishop, born on July 31, 2006, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, left this world far too soon on May 9, 2026, at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. His departure has left an indelible void in the hearts of those who cherished him, as they come together to remember the vibrancy and spirit that defined his young life.
A 2025 graduate of Collinsville High School, Ian was a shining star among his peers—an energetic young man whose passions knitted tightly with the threads of friendship and adventure. He carried the pride of the Collinsville Raiders on the football field where he played with heart and determination. Off the field, Ian’s love for the outdoors was evident in the way he embraced fishing, found joy in bowling alleys, and reveled in the freedom of motorcycle rides alongside close friends. These pursuits spoke not only to his love of camaraderie but to a restless spirit eager to explore the world around him.
Ian’s journey will be fondly remembered and honored at Herr Funeral Home, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois 62234, where the family invites all whose lives he touched to come together. A viewing will be held on May 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 1:00pm. Thereafter, Ian will be laid to rest in St. John’s Cemetery at 105 National Terrace, Collinsville, at 2:00 p.m., a solemn farewell at a place that will forever keep his memory.
Ian’s family, who carry both the weight of grief and the light of his legacy, includes his devoted father Steve Long and mother Amanda Johnson; his beloved sisters Sophia Long and Stephanie (Skip) Smock; his brothers Drake Hill and Steven Long; and the warmth of his grandmothers Betty Long and Sherry Crum; great-grandmother Wilma Johnson and his is grandfather Frank Johnson’s presence lingers in cherished stories and enduring affection, alongside the memories of his late grandfather Charles Long and great-grandfather Donnie Johnson, whose legacies now intertwine with his own. Ian was engaged to Destiny Crowder, a love held dear amidst the sorrow, and together with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, they form the extended circle mourning a formative soul gone too rapidly from their midst.
Through the ache, Ian’s life bursts forth in the memory of joyful moments—football games under bright stadium lights, quiet mornings by sunlit waters with a fishing rod in hand, the satisfying roll of pins in a bowling alley, and the wind rushing past on motorcycles that sang of freedom and friendship. In every laugh shared and every dream pursued, Ian Michael Bishop’s essence endures, a vibrant spirit forever etched into the fabric of the community he so dearly loved.
As the family navigates this irrevocable loss, they extend gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, welcoming all who wish to honor Ian’s brief yet brilliant journey. The Herr Funeral Home is entrusted with serving the family during this time of farewell and reflection, ensuring that the echoes of Ian’s life resound with warmth and remembrance for years to come.
