IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack David
Kirk
June 4, 1950 – September 2, 2020
Jack David Kirk, Jr., 70, AKA "Barber Jack," of Collinsville, Ill. passed away on September 2, 2020 from complications of a ruptured Aortic Abdominal Aneurism (AAA). He was born June 4, 1950 to parents Jack David Kirk, Sr. and Mary June Kirk (Sessions) in St. Louis, Mo. Jack graduated from Hazelwood High School in 1968. He attended the University of Missouri-KC to study music before proudly serving his country overseas in the United States Army, Air Cavalry as a radio operator during the Vietnam War. Once honorably discharged from military service, he worked in the brew house at Anheuser Busch in St. Louis before attending Belleville Barber College in 1976. He spent more than 40 years cutting hair in Collinsville, Ill. until retiring in 2017. Jack was a neat-freak who kept a tidy home, immaculate truck, perfectly groomed beard and adhered to a strict workout schedule. He walked fast, talked loudly and dismissed an undesirable conversation with "yeah, yeah, yeah." Jack slowly embraced technology, learning to stream TV shows and movies, search Google on his iPhone and scroll through Facebook. However, he stubbornly refused many offers made by his children and grandchildren to teach him text messaging. Jack enjoyed working out, going to the movies, target shooting, riding his Harley and traveling with family. He was in great shape. Until the discovery of his AAA in July, he spent only one day of his adult life in the hospital with a minor illness. He is mourned by his daughter Holli Martin (Larry) of Fort Myers, Fla., his son Justin Kirk (Kree) of Granite City, Ill., four grandchildren (of the self-professed "coolest grandpa,") USMC Corporal Connor Martin (Meghan), Patrick Martin, Jackson Kirk and Kennley Kirk, as well as his sister, Judy Wrozier (Stewart) of Defiance, Mo. After becoming a grandfather, the once-stoic man became an emotional, loving and super-generous "dude." He was proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and made sure they knew it. Those who knew him would attest that Jack wouldn't want a big fuss made about him in death, so the family has opted against a public memorial. Rather, they encourage those mourning Jack to do something in remembrance of him: ride a Harley, go hiking, ride a horse, go skydiving, volunteer time with veterans or enjoy a sunset at the beach. And always, without fail, tell your family you love them. Memorial donations may be made to the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health (johnritterfoundation.org) or the Gary Sinise Foundation for veterans, first responders and their families (garysinisefoundation.org).
