IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James F.
Chapman, Jr.
October 24, 1938 – October 1, 2022
James F Chapman, Jr., 83, a life-long resident of Collinsville, IL., passed into the loving embrace of the Lord on October 1, 2022. He was born to parents James and Theresa (nee Cherotti) Chapman on October 24, 1938 at their home in Collinsville. Both parents, as well as sister Joan Massa, and brother-in-law Bud Willett have preceded him in death.
James served in the Army for two years before going on to become a Civil Servant for the Department of the Army, spending 28 years in that position. When he was not working, he spent his time outdoors, enjoying hunting, trout fishing, and golfing. He and his wife, Shelby, also had a "Tuesday Night Group" that would meet weekly, having dinner together and enjoying each others' company.
James married Shelby, who survives him, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on April 22, 1967. Together they had three loving daughters, Susan (Tonya) Chapman, Beth (Rob) Favier, and Tracy (Mark) Dalton who carry on his legacy. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren: James, Anthony, and Daniel Schultz; Lucas Young; Samantha and Justin Favier; Madison (Logan) Pelo; and Dalani Dalton. His sister Nancy Willett, brother-in-law Leonard Massa, and sister-in-law Sharon (Jack) Ruby also mourn him, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
A visitation for James will be held from 1 - 4 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St., Collinsville, IL. A memorial Mass will directly follow, and a private burial will be held at a later date.
