GLEN CARBON- James E. Evans, 73, of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

James was born February 9, 1945 in St. Louis, MO to Wadis and Lillie (Hairston) Evans. They both preceded him in death.

He married Cathy Thoma on November 22, 1991 in St. Charles, MO. She survives and resides in Glen Carbon, IL.

Also surviving are his two sons, Harold Evans of Philadelphia, PA and Ryan Evans of Glen Carbon, IL; and his siblings, Vernell (Regina) Evans of St. Louis, MO, Orlando (Phyllis) Evans of Coppell, TX and Wanda Chambers of St. Peters, MO.

James proudly served his country as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force from April 1963- April 1967. He continued his working career as a Police Officer for the City of St. Louis, MO for 10 years.  James worked at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing for 27 years as an Armed Security Officer and retired in July of 2008.  James also worked for the Edwardsville School District as a School Safety Officer for 6 years.  James was past Vice President of the Metro East Foster Parent Association.

VISITATION: A visitation for James will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 9:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL 62034.

SERVICE: A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation, at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
