Dr. James T. Foster, a prominent radiologist associated with St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, Illinois for more than 30 years, died Saturday March 3, 2012 at the Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, Illinois of multiple complications.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruby Foster, and twelve nieces and nephews.
Dr. Foster joined the staff at St. Francis in early 1963, where he practiced for over 30 years. Dr. Foster was a fellow of the American College of Radiology, and the AMA. He was a member of the Dubourg Society at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
He is a 1951 graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine after attending both Cal Tech and Occidental College as an undergraduate. He served a rotating internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla., and then served two years with the U.S. Air Force as a general medical officer stationed at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. After serving a residency in radiology at Harbor Hospital in Torrance, Calif., he opened a private practice in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Two years later, he took a staff radiologist position at Queen of Angeles Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. He left California to move to Litchfield, Illinois in 1962.
Memorial services will be held at Meridian Village at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Saint Louis School of Medicine.
