Obituary

James E. Johnson, 84, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born Dec. 21, 1929, in Lee, Ill., passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. He was active with Faith-in-Action, Meals-on-Wheels and the Glen-Ed Pantry. He was a member of Troy United Methodist Church and served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Claire, nee Mason, Johnson, whom he married on May 26, 1951; his parents, Stanley Curtis and Helen Elsie, nee Mosher, Johnson; and brothers and sisters, Owen D. Johnson, Marjorie Ann Turk, Barbara June Duffy, Caroline Louise Duffy and Leonard Lyle Johnson.

Surviving are his son, Jeffrey Alan (Jane) Johnson of Glen Carbon, Ill.; a brother, Stanley Curtis of Johnson Hills, Iowa; a sister, Lois Jeanette Gardner of Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandchildren, Benjamin (Marcie) Johnson, Rebekah (Daniel) Cowin and Anna (Daniel) Yarger; and great-grandchildren, Amelia Johnson, Megan Johnson, Abigail Yarger, Rosemary Cowin, Natalie Cowin and Nathaniel Johnson.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Meridian Village with Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Per request, cremation rites will be accorded.
