James Mike Gates

James "Mike" Gates, 53, of Edwardsville, Ill., passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Eden Village Nursing Home in Glen Carbon, Ill. Mike was born July 20, 1964, in Hillsboro, Ill., the son of the late Donna West.

Mike is survived by his wife Shinobu, nee Mizushima, Gates of Edwardsville, Ill.; one daughter, Nanako Gates of Edwardsville, Ill.; one sister, Minda (Greg) Hoffman of San Clemente, Ca.

Mike retired after 20 years from the U.S. Navy and for the past 12 years has been employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, Ill.

Graveside services with full military honors will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2017, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, Mo.
