James D. Smith, 84, of Collinsville, Ill., born Jan. 10, 1927, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Liberty Village Nursing Home, Maryville, Ill.



Mr. Smith was a proud Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed photography, and loved tinkering with electronics.



He was preceded in death by his parents, Downey and Martha, nee Kessinger, Smith; and his sister, LaDonna Conner.



He is survived by his wife, Gloria, nee Cherry, Smith of Collinsville, Ill.; his children, Tanya (Jerry) Mitchell of Fresno, Calif., Scott (Sam) Langreder of Collinsville, Ill., Jade (Michael) Sodam of Belleville, Ill., Keith (Diane) Langreder of Collinsville, Ill., and Kristi (Dave) Nichols of Collinsville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011, at Peace Lutheran Church, Belleville, Ill., with the Rev. Bill Pierce officiating. Burial will be held at St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, Ill.
