Jane Ann Onofrey, 75, passed away on October 26, 2026, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Jane was born on January 29, 1951, in Chester, Illinois, to parents, William and Mathilda Sherrill.
In 1979, Jane married William R. Onofrey and they were happily married until his passing in in 1985. Though they were together only a few short years, they were able to live a lot of life in that time. They enjoyed an immense amount of travel together- going all over the world; and they had a beautiful daughter, Genin Strader nee Onofrey, in May of 1980.
Jane will be remembered as a kind hearted person who spent most of her life putting others before her. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bunko, shopping on QVC, and attending her grandchildren's games. She was a family oriented person who loved hosting holiday get togethers and preparing wonderful homecooked meals. She kept her house spotless and you could easily tell Martha Stewart was an inspiration to her.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mathilda, and her loving husband, William R. Onofrey. She is survived by her daughter, Genin (Matt) Strader of Edwardsville, IL; nephew, William R. Onofrey II of Highland, IL; grandchildren, Logan and Mason Strader of Edwardsville, IL; niece, Monika Onofrey of Highland, IL; and brother, Steven (Sue) Sherrill of Jacksonville, IL and his family.
A public visitation will be held from the chapel of Sunset Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4th, 2026, from 2 - 6 PM. Interment will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Belleville, IL, at a later date to join her husband in eternity.
Memorial donations may be made in Jane's honor to Stridin and Survivin (The fight against Breast Cancer).
The family is being served by Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL, 62034.
