Obituary

Jean Marie Bornert, nee Hodges, was born Aug. 9, 1928, in East St. Louis, Ill. She died Nov. 11, 2013, in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Jean married Richard Lee "Barney" Bornert on March 29, 1947. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Collinsville, Ill.

Jean was a loving wife and mother, and also a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, and volunteered at the senior center, quilter's church group, and Meals-On-Wheels. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and taking care of her family. She resided with Richard in Collinsville, Ill., for many years, in Alhambra, Ill., and again in Collinsville, Ill. She had resided at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Ill., since 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Bornert; son, Garrett Bornert; parents, Earl and Ella, nee Sheary, Hodges; brothers, Ross "Earl" and Ralph Hodges; sisters, Nellie Hodges, Ethel Emerson, Grace Varady, Francis Suyo and Carrie Heslop.

Surviving are her children, James (Esther) Bornert of Eldorado, Ill., Jeanine Warner, Cheryl (Keith) Lombard of Troy, Ill., and Jennifer (Scott) DeMay of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Misty) Bornert of Reading, Pa., Danielle (Tom) Hemphill of Monroe, N.Y., Lauren (Jared) Missey of Highland, Ill., Brenna Blow of Glen Carbon, Ill., Caitlin Lombard of Springfield, Mo., and Megan Blow of Glen Carbon, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Tara Bornert, Jaxon Bornert, Gavin Hemphill, Julien Frith, Aubrey Missey and Brynlee Missey.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Senior Services at Meridian Village or Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.herrfuneral.com.

Visitation: Friends may call for a memorial visitation from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 14, 2013, at the funeral home. Rites of Cremation have been accorded and burial of ashes will be private.
