Marie J. Underwood, nee McMahan, 89, of Collinsville, Ill., born Feb. 8, 1924, in Savanah, Tenn., died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at University Nursing and Rehab in Edwardsville, Ill.

Mrs. Underwood was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Underwood whom she married on Oct. 3, 1942; son, Steven Paul Underwood; parents, Andrew F. and Martha, nee Thompson, McMahan; sisters and brothers, Mary Lois McMahan, Raymond Franklin McMahan, John Wallace McMahan, Willie Bea McMahan, Billie Randolph McMahan, Barbara Yvonne Austin and Bobby Jean McMahan.

Surviving are her son, Gayle Edward (Patricia) Underwood of Collinsville, Ill.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Wanda Durell Strickland, Martha Ruth Gerkovich of White Settlement, Texas, Ruby Rebecca Bailey of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Dorothy Jenece McKay of Azle, Texas.
