Jessie Deloris Gardner, nee Crews, 83, of Osage Beach, Mo., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1932, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at her residence.
Jessie loved to crochet and was known for cooking and her awesome Christmas cookies. She had a need for speed and was known as lead foot granny. She enjoyed the outdoors and after moving to Osage Beach enjoyed boating and being outside. She became a CNA in 1976 and worked at both St Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City and Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Since 1958 she and her husband attended the Bethel Chapel in Granite City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Hanna Faye, nee Hartley, Crews; and brothers, David, Tommy and Charles Crews.
Surviving are her husband, Billy Lee Gardner, whom she married on Nov. 27, 1948; two daughters, Sheila (Gary) Sisson of O'Fallon, Mo., and Rebecca (Daniel) Zimmerly of Osage Beach, Mo.; her sister, Alice Faye (Wayne) Creg of Dexter, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Ria, Steven, Sheena, Heather, Brittany, Shalee and Charles; and seven great-grandchildren.
