JoAnn Barnett, 83, of Breese, IL. (formerly of Granite City) passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, IL. JoAnn Barnett was born in Cincinnati, OH.

She married Ronald Barnett, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1986, and became an Army wife. Together they had 4 children. She later owned J&J Med Car with her companion Peter (Jim) Planitz.

JoAnn loved being in her yard enjoying her flowers and feeding the birds and squirrels. She was a great cook and would feed anyone who wanted or needed a meal. She was an avid reader and loved to draw.
JoAnn was only 5 feet tall and every inch of her was full of SASS. It's what endeared her to her family. She was our JOJO.
Besides her husband and companion Jim Planitz, she was preceded in death by son David Barnett (1982), daughter Susan Barnett Hayes (2018), granddaughters Kalynn Barnett James (2001) and Kristen Rupcinski (2003). We know they were there to welcome her with open arms.

Surviving are daughter Catherine Rupcinski (friend Mike Deien); son Ronald Barnett, Jr.; son-in-law J.B. Hayes; grandchildren Kara (Shawn) Albers, Damon Rupcinski, Jessica Diak, Ronald Barnett III, Richard Barnett, Breanne Grim, Emilie Hayes, Dalton James, Hannah Barnett, and 11 great-grandchildren with another on the way.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, Glen Carbon, IL from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a funeral to follow starting at 12:00.00.pm. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
